The Spiral

Greetings!  It has been awhile since I sat down to write something for Lisa’s Corner.  We are still located mainly in Shakopee and have a few other therapists working within ACTS Therapy. Life continues to change. Sometimes for the good and sometimes the unexpected.  We can choose to look at change as positive or not.  For those of you who have been clients of mine you know I choose to practice the skills I have taught and shared here on this web site.  No one is immune to stress in this life and as such we all need to have our own soothing skills to help us be the best we can be.  I sometimes share “don’t should on yourself” with a smile. When we go the path of should… we are many times causing unnecessary stress on ourselves.  I encourage you to watch Bob Newhart “stop it!” as many times I want to say that not only to myself but others! Smile

A skill most of my clients enjoy is the spiral. This is a skill that is very helpful if you record your own voice or that of someone who calms you and have it on your phone or other device. Take your time. Read it slowly and move from your head, shoulders, arms to fingertips, core of body, legs to toes….and repeat it a few times changing the words the second time to picking up any residual tension, bad thoughts, upsets, worries… Good luck!!

Spiral Technique

  • Imagine a spiral either inside or surrounding your body outside. It doesn’t matter; It is your own personal preference.
  • This spiral is hooked up to a never-ending supply energy. You can think of this source as anything you want ~ the sun ~wind/air ~water ~universe, ~God ~higher power ~the cosmos ~ whatever works for you.
  • This healing energy spirals through your body and picks up any disturbance and negative energy in your body
  • When you have gone slowly through your body from your head to your toes. Allow the negative thoughts and feelings to leave your body and go into the earth where the earth gladly receives it and neutralizes it.
  • Repeat the spiral again from your head to your toes this time picking up any residual negative energy that is left over. 
  • Repeat as needed until your body is feeling calm and your mind is at ease.

For clarity, I will use one energy source going inside one’s body. Just replace with your energy source and either inside or around for your spirals movement.

Imagine the heat from the sun spiraling inside your head…neck and shoulders. The heat is picking up any negative energy…. bad thoughts…. tension…. upsets…. worries and leaving behind a calming…soothing…. healing…relaxing energy.  The heat is continuing to spiral around your arms…core of your body…your fingertips…. picking up any negative energy…. tension…. bad thoughts…. upsets……worries and the spiral of heat is leaving behind a …. calming…. soothing…. healing…relaxing energy.  The spiral of heat continues down through your legs…. knees…. calves…feet…. toes…. picking up any negative energy…. tension…bad thoughts…upsets…. worries and it is leaving behind a calming…. soothing…. healing…. relaxing energy…. All of this negative energy is now leaving your body and going into the earth; where the earth gladly receives it, and neutralizes it.

The spiral of heat again starts inside your head…neck and shoulders. The heat is picking up any residual negative energy…. bad thoughts…. tension…. upsets…. worries and leaving behind a calming…soothing…. healing…relaxing energy.  The heat is continuing to spiral around your arms…core of your body…your fingertips…. picking up any left-over negative energy…. tension…. bad thoughts…. upsets……worries and the spiral of heat is leaving behind a …. calming…. soothing…. healing…relaxing energy.  The spiral of heat continues down through your legs…. knees…. calves…feet…. toes…. picking up any residual negative energy…. tension…bad thoughts…upsets…. worries and it is leaving behind a calming…. soothing…. healing…. relaxing energy.  All of this negative energy is now leaving your body and going into the earth; where the earth gladly receives it, and neutralizes it and all that is left in your body is the calming…. soothing …. healing …. relaxing energy.  Let the spiral continue to flow through your body from your head to your toes leaving behind that calming…. soothing…healing…. relaxing energy.

When your body feels entirely calm and you are ready start to think about your day; knowing that any time you need to be calm you can go back to your spiral and feel the same calming…. soothing…. healing…. relaxing energy you are feeling right now…….
